Protein Shakes for the Kiddos!!!

Protein is just fine for children, but some parents freak when I tell them I give my son occasional protein shakes. Here are some recipes and some guidelines for children and protein consumption.

We know kids need protein, that is a given. And it is just fine if you give them protein shakes. Now, by no means, should children consume as much protein as adults. Here are some guidelines on the recommended amounts of protein:

1 to 3 year olds: .55 grams per pound
4 to 6 year olds: .50 grams per pound
7 to 14 year olds: .45 grams per pound

Follow these guidelines and protein shakes can be just fine for your child. It can also be fun for your child if they know mommy or daddy drinks protein shakes. They will feel special. :)

Now that we got all that awesome protein info out the way, here are some recipes I that I make for Josiah:

**NOTE: I purchase a really good quality whey protein that has no flavor. That way I can change up the recipe easy without having to make the flavors blend well with chocolate or vanilla.

Josiahs Breakfast "Mighty Meal" Shake"

(I make this in the morning if we are rushing or if he just wants biscuits. That way he will still get his full meal)

Ingredients:

- 1 washed & peeled Mango
- 5 washed Strawberries
- 1/2 Banana
- About 1/2 cup of 100% Orange Juice
- 1 scoop Protein Powder
- A handful of Ice cubes

Throw everything into the blender, and blend until no there are no more chunks.


Josiahs "Milk Shake" Protein Smoothie

(When he wants a treat, I give him this sometimes at his snack time...he loves it)

Ingredients:

- 1 1/2 tsp Unsweetened Hershey Dark Chocolate Cocoa
- Small Pinch of Ground Nutmeg
- About 1 cup of Plain Almond Milk
- 2 tsp Honey
- 1 tbsp Almond Butter
- 1 ripe Banana
- 1 scoop Protein Powder
- Handful of Ice
- 1 Can Reddi Whip
- 1 Cherry (No pit)

Blend until there are no chunks left in the blender. When finished, top with Reddi Whip and Cherry.


Josiahs Choco-Monkey Shake

Ingredients:

- 2 tbsp 'Dark Chocolate Dreams' Peanut Butter
- 1 Ripe Banana
- Handful of Ice
- 1 scoop Protein Powder

Blend until smooth.
