There are so many times on Figure & Bikini that I find myself in awe of our members. You each come with amazing stories of failures and triumph, love and loss, perseverance and setbacks. I love each of you for your stories and this one is no exception. Meet Judi Gelman.

As of this writing Judi is 51.



I can almost stop writing there as if you did what I did, I've lost your attention completely because you're looking at her picture and calling your family over to your iPad to show them!

I happen to be at my father's house vacationing for the week when this amazing lady popped up on my screen. I had to read her email three times as I kept finding myself in awe of her physique, voicing to my family, "Whoa would you LOOK at this woman?!"

Yes, she's 51 today. And I won't be surprised at all if we check back with her in a decade and she looks even more amazing then, if that's even possible.

I was so impressed with this young 51-year-old that I asked her to tell us in her own words how she does it and what she would like to share about her obviously fit lifestyle that we all can learn from.

Here is what she said:

" I workout about 4-5 days per week (3-4 days of weight training and 1-2 days of high intensity cardio).

I have always been active but never what you would call lean.

In the last 2 years both my husband and I have lost 20 pounds. We had been working out prior to the weight loss but not really focusing on our diet.

When we started eating clean, we started losing weight.

It really is true that it is 80% diet and 20% nutrition!

We lost the weight but then weren't seeing a lot of muscle definition (although I had been doing an outdoor bootcamp but it really focused more on cardio and overall conditioning). So, we joined a gym a little over a year ago and started lifting weights.

Wow, did things change in our physique then! People I used to see at bootcamp were asking what I did.

So, I am a firm believer in eating clean, weight lifting and high intensity cardio.

Also, I am 51 and I am in better shape than I have ever been in. I want to show not only woman my age but of all ages that it is never too late to start to be fit and healthy!

Also, I am on a quest to compete one day in maybe a figure competition.

I really believe that just because we get older doesn't mean we have to get old! "

Here are my take-aways from Judi:

(1) Diet. Diet. Diet.

I know I preach this but there's a clear reason. It simply works. If your diet isn't clean you're not going to get the results you're seeking.

(2) Incorporate weight training and HIIT cardio into your workout routine.

Look at her... need I say more? ;)

(3) It's never too late.

If you're reading this and are 35, 45, or 55, and thinking you're too old, too tired, too busy, or too whatever, you just have to dump the excuses that are keeping you from moving forward and just DO IT. You'll love yourself for it.

There's no stopping me now after seeing Judi AND you Kristin! You both (with my other FAB Sisters) give me the "oomph" to push it in the gym and eat clean to reach my first competition in June 2014...THANK YOU for not only for the encouragement, but for being my cheering squad!! *Hugs*

Thank you so much for posting this. I just turned 51 and have 50 pounds to lose. If 51 looks like this 52 has to look even better !!

This is a great story! Thank you for sharing! You just actually helped me remove all doubt that my 48-year-old self could actually accomplish my goal of walking a bikini comp stage before the age of 50! I'm going for it! Thanks again for your inspiration!
